The Senior Year Scaries Are Real
Jul 15, 2025
Here’s What to Do About It 🎓😳

You know what’s scarier than a final exam?
Being 21, having no idea what you want to do, and everyone asking:
“Soooo what’s next after graduation?”
Cue the panic. Cue the comparison spiral. Cue the urge to move to Europe and “figure it out later.”
(You’re not alone.)
🧠 Step 1: Normalize the Uncertainty
Literally no one has it fully figured out at 21. Even the girl with the consulting job at Deloitte is secretly Googling “how to be passionate about business strategy.”
👉 Action Step: Change the question from “What am I doing with my life?” to:
“What’s something I want to explore for the next 6–12 months?”
That’s way more manageable—and way more real.
📑 Step 2: Pick a Direction, Not a Forever
Internship? Gap year? Startup idea? Entry-level job to pay the bills?
All of those are valid.
👉 Action Step: Write down 2–3 paths you’re even curious about.
Now Google what jobs, industries, or internships align with those paths.
This is about momentum, not perfection.
💬 Step 3: Talk to People Who’ve Been There
Nobody figures this stuff out in isolation. The answers come from conversation.
👉 Action Step: DM one alum or upperclassman with this message:
“Hey [Name], I’m a senior trying to figure out next steps after graduation and saw you work in [industry]. Would you be open to a 15-minute chat? I’d love to hear about your experience.”
📈 Step 4: Build a Soft Launch Plan for Post-Grad
You don’t need a 10-year vision board. You need a 90-day plan to start strong.
👉 Action Step: Ask:
-
What kind of work am I interested in?
-
What cities or companies align with that?
-
Who can I talk to next?
